“Some critics continue to assert that President George W. Bush’s policies bear little responsibility for the deficits the nation faces over the coming decade — that, instead, the new policies of President Barack Obama and the 111th Congress are to blame. Most recently, a Heritage Foundation paper downplayed the role of Bush-era policies (for more on that paper, see p. 4). Nevertheless, the fact remains: Together with the economic downturn, the Bush tax cuts and the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq explain virtually the entire deficit over the next ten years (see Figure 1).

This isn’t rocket science, and many independent analysts have shown this data. But Republicans want to believe it’s Obama’s fault, and facts be damned.

No need for tears, but the well-off are losing their master suites and saying goodbye to their wine cellars. The housing bust that began among the working class in remote subdivisions and quickly progressed to the suburban middle class is striking the upper class in privileged enclaves like this one in Silicon Valley.
Whether it is their residence, a second home or a house bought as an investment, the rich have stopped paying the mortgage at a rate that greatly exceeds the rest of the population.
More than one in seven homeowners with loans in excess of a million dollars are seriously delinquent, according to data compiled for The New York Times by the real estate analytics firm CoreLogic.

I’m sure there’s a Right-wing website blaming this on Fannie, Freddie, Harry Reid, Barney Frank, or poor people. Everybody knows it’s whiteness-challenged poor people who sponged off the government who default on their houses, and that’s it. End of story.

According to a recent Gallup poll, the Tea Party movement is just a rebranding of conservative Republicanism.

There is significant overlap between Americans who identify as supporters of the Tea Party movement and those who identify as conservative Republicans. Their similar ideological makeup and views suggest that the Tea Party movement is more a rebranding of core Republicanism than a new or distinct entity on the American political scene.

Did they really need a Gallup poll to decide this? Anyone who doesn’t see that the Tea Party is just Republican AstroTurf is blind or watching too much Glenn Beck.

This is the GOP’s way of temporarily dissociating itself with its normally bigoted and backwards social policies while they promote what they falsely call “free market economics”….

Given that it is impossible to deport 11 million people, here is my solution to span the next 5 years.

If you are here illegally and have committed any crime equal to a Class A Misdemeanor or higher you are deported. PERIOD….No ifs, ands, or buts.

If you are here illegally and have a criminal record of Class B or less, and are gainfully employed, you can petition for an Employment Authorization Document (EAD) to continue employment. This is only a temporary work permit. Permits are only good for 18 months and are not renewable. If you pass a background check you can apply to become a Lawful Permanent Residents (LPR). Gaining LPR status means paying back taxes and a fine. If you cannot gain LPR status you are deported. If you cannot gain LPR status within the 18 month time frame of the EAD you must stop your employment or face deportation. LPR status gives you the right to apply for the biometeric Workers ID card.

Everyone who is legally here in the U.S., is issues by the State they reside in, a biometeric Workers ID card abiding by INS guidelines. American Citizens get a biometric SSN card.

No I.D.’s of either kind means no services or bank accounts, no vehicle purchases, no money orders or out-of-country wire fund transfers, no social services like food stamps or State aid, no education assistance, no utilities like gas, electric or water, no school enrollment. Nobody works without a biometeric SSN card and/or State biometeric ID card.

Is this how they would lead? Is this the way they support the troops?

Tax breaks for millionaires.

Governor Chris Christie of New Jersey (R) is giving millionaire families a tax break this year averaging $40,000, while low-income single Mom’s are getting a $300 tax hike and are getting hit with cuts to housing, child care, health care, and more.

Is this how the GOP balance their budgets?

I am thrilled for the millionaires who will get a $40,000 tax break this year. Just what they need. After all the “USA!! WE’RE #1!!” this is when we just ignore the veterans and low-income “little” people….bootstraps, you know.

Dick Fuld, Ken Lay, Roger Smith and Bernie Ebbers. They are included in the top 20 Worst American CEOs of All Time. Well you can add Carly Fiorina the California Republican nominees for senator to that list at number 19.

A consummate self-promoter, Fiorina was busy pontificating on the lecture circuit and posing for magazine covers while her company floundered. She paid herself handsome bonuses and perks while laying off thousands of employees to cut costs. The merger Fiorina orchestrated with Compaq in 2002 was widely seen as a failure. She was ousted in 2005.

THE STAT: HP stock lost half its value during Fiorina’s tenure.

 Fiorina had been described as a “businesswomen from the real world who know how to create jobs, balance budgets and get things done”, but I expect that has about as much truth as BP’s recent claims in the Gulf of Mexico. I do admit she has created jobs though. Fiorina has factually exported US jobs to Mexico and/or Taiwan…. good for her. During Fiorina’s tenure, HP stock dropped 60%. She was an absolute disaster for HP. HP lost market share and value virtually her entire tenure. She nearly killed off their flagship, cash-cow business, printers, because her decisions to offshore resulted in drastic reductions in quality.

There’s a reason why the stock price jumped 11% when they finally pushed her out…

…basically, because everyone knew she was destroying a great company (well, at least everyone who didn’t have their heads wedged into an orifice where up is down, white is black, and the sun never shines.)

Way back in 2007 the Supreme Court ruled that greenhouse gas emissions could be regulated under the Clean Air Act if it could be shown that such gases were a danger to human health. Why hasn’t Congress acted on this information? Shouldn’t Bush’s EPA pushed to get the act amended, and have Congress write it into the act which emissions should be regulated? Hasn’t the Obama administration done the same thing? We need clean energy legislation, and I believe most people would agree that it should be written by Congress. Everyone is all pissed off about the Gulf disaster and something must be done, but President Obama should not use executive power to enhance the Clean Air Act. There has never been a worse time to defend the oil industry or obstruct a clean energy policy, but The Clean Air Act was passed by Congress, and if it needs to be enhanced then such enhancement must be made by Congress, not by Presidential fiat. I’m sure most would agree that if we do not want the President changing acts of Congress with the infamous “signing statements” of portions which he will not enforce; why should he be allowed to “enhance” them with statements of additions which he will enforce?

I have listened to this story for weeks now, trying to get a handle on just what he is being accused of?

When Kirk was claiming the Intelligence Officer of the Year award (something he was not awarded), he said it was for “combat service in Kosovo.” Now, it merely says “for service in Kosovo” and a recent list of his awards in the Washington Post did not include a Combat Action Ribbon nor a “v” device, which would actually designate him a combat veteran.

Did Kirk serve in Desert Storm as he claims?

No. He completed three tours of duty aboard the USS Stennis, four tours of duty supporting counter-narcotics operations in Panama, and worked at the Office of Naval Intelligence in Washington DC during Operation Desert Storm in 1991. Kirk served honorably. He did an important job, and by all accounts did it well. So why the need to embellish?

To say you have served in a campaign is precisely the sort of falsehood for which Richard Blumenthal had been castigated for. Blumenthal repeatedly pointed out in speeches that he had served “during” Vietnam–but with that one noteable slip-up–and then corrected the record when the mistake was pointed out.

Kirk’s two-week trips to Afghanistan do not qualify him as a “veteran” of Enduring Freedom either as he claims. If he can’t claim the “Afghanistan Campaign Medal,” he can’t claim to be a veteran of that conflict.

The decoration is awarded to any member of the U.S. military who has performed duty within the borders of Afghanistan (or its airspace) for a period of thirty consecutive days or sixty non-consecutive days.

Kirk acknowledged that his campaign’s promotion of him coming under fire while flying aboard an intelligence reconnaissance plane in Iraq may not be correct because there is no record of whether his aircraft was being fired upon.

By “his campaign’s promotion of him coming under fire while flying aboard an intelligence reconnaissance plane,” what Kirk really means is “that thing I said with my own mouth.”

Now the DoD Under Secretary suggest Mark Kirk broke the law. The DoD memo states…

Ordinarily this acknowledgment (waiver) must be completed within 15 days of entering active duty. Because of the short period of active duty and concerns arising from his partisan political activities during his last two tours of active duty, Commander Kirk must complete this form prior to his entry on active duty.

WTF!?!?!

Is this memo the first evidence of official Department of Defense acknowledgment that Kirk violated regulations against political activity while on active duty?

I get the feeling he’s been lying in ways great and small about his career ever since he started running for office.

*EDIT*

Recap –

Kirk

Falsely claimed he served “in” Operation Iraqi Freedom;

Falsely claimed to “command the war room in the Pentagon”;

Falsely claimed to have won the U.S. Navy’s Intelligence Officer of the Year award;

Falsely claimed to have been shot at by the Iraqi Air Defense network;

Falsely claimed to be a veteran of Desert Storm;

Falsely claimed to be the only lawmaker to serve during Operation Iraqi Freedom; and

Falsely claimed to have been shot at in Kosovo; and

Falsely claimed to have been shot at in Kandahar.

The Pentagon said this week that Kirk “twice violated military policy by participating in political activities while on active duty — once in 2008 and once in 2009.”

I guess they just can’t resist whipping up war fever against anyone not creamy white with Euro sounding names. Someone needs to introduce Liz Cheney to the NATO Treaty. I thought she was supposed to be a “foreign policy expert” — or so she keeps telling us.
